Our Mission

Believing in each individual’s right to choose the level of health they desire is what we do best. We believe that when individuals know the facts, they make the best choices they can in regard to themselves and their families! Individual freedom is honored and each person’s dental experience is customized for them. We take the time to get to know our patients, their wants and desires, and through a co-discovery, and goal-setting process aims to give them exactly what they want. Clear expectations lead to an enhanced, unique relationship that’s different for each person. We aim to give patients the health, beauty, and confidence to live their life more completely.

Philosophy of Our Practice

We believe in building health with our patients to the level they want for themselves. Some people want their teeth primarily for function, others want the appearance of their teeth to reflect their health, still, others want a minimal amount of dental work over their lifetime. Everyone’s reason is different, but it’s critical to know so that we can make a goal and plan that you actually want to employ! In this manner, we can give you what it is you actually want!

Most of our profession is problem-focused. In other words, we tend to focus on issues that we either see as a future problem (cavities or gum disease) or for reasons that would bring you into the office (broken teeth, tooth pain, jaw pain). We have noticed by focusing on problems, you get really really good at finding more and more problems. The rub here is that there is not a person alive (even the ones who love the dentist!) who wants to have more dental work!

As opposed to this, if you start off with an in-depth knowledge of health and compare what is present, you get a clearer understanding of what it is you truly want for yourself! This allows you to choose the level and depth of health creation and gives you a plan and strategy that you can execute. In health creation, we start with Gums and Bone as the basis of building health. This is the basement that allows health to grow in an individual and needs to be addressed if we are to proceed to higher levels of health. Cavities, structurally weak teeth are the next level. Bite and Chewing system the next. How the teeth work and look together is built on that, ending with Rejuvenation dentistry.

Dr. Matthew and Dr. Coatlicue Carter work for you, not your dental insurance company. Our practice does not diagnose or provide treatment based on dental insurance allowances. Diagnosis and treatment recommendations will be based on Dr. Matthew and Dr. Coatlicue Carter’s judgment and experience as well as your desires and wishes. Dr. Matthew and Dr. Coatlicue Carter and the team will partner with you allowing you to make the final decision regarding your dental health.

As a courtesy, our office will make certain each patient receives assistance to maximize their insurance benefits. However, dental insurance may not cover all dental care costs. Please feel free to discuss your particular financial concerns with our office coordinator, Kayla.

Financial Consideration

Financial Considerations

Today’s visit * We request payment on the date of service * We accept Debit or credit cards, personal checks, and cash. * We offer Care Credit for larger treatment plans. * Any balance not covered by your insurance company is your responsibility.

How does my insurance factor into my billing and financial responsibility?

It is important to understand that the contract regarding your dental benefits is between you, your employer, and your insurance company. The obligation you have with our practice is to pay for treatment, regardless of the amount that may or may not be reimbursed by your insurance company. The following provisions identify our policies governing insurance claims. Although we are willing to complete insurance forms and submit a claim on your behalf, we do not accept responsibility for the outcome of the transaction.

Completing insurance forms is a courtesy we extend to you in an effort to maximize your insurance reimbursement. By having our office process your insurance forms, it is important that you understand that this does not eliminate your financial obligation for your treatment. Insurance companies’ reimbursement (payment to you) ordinarily is received within two weeks from the time of billing. If your insurance company has not made payment to you within 15 days, you are responsible for seeking reimbursement from your insurance company at that time. We will provide the necessary documentation your insurance company requests to sort out any confusion or questions that may arise. Our office will not enter a dispute with your insurance company over any claim, the service you receive is ultimately your responsibility. If an account goes 45 days past due a finance charge of 16% APR will be passed on a monthly basis to your account.

As a courtesy to you, our office will make sure each person receives assistance in maximizing their insurance benefits. During a normal “repair-oriented” dentistry and routine cleaning visit, we will submit your claims as a courtesy on your behalf. Starting January 1st, 2021 Assignment of benefits (the insurance payment, the insurance check) will go directly to you the patient.

At each appointment, patients will pay (in full) for services rendered.

In the case of restorative care where our work may be more extensive, we are obviously working for you directly, not the insurance company. In other words, we are not working from insurance companies’ allowances for repair work. Diagnosis and treatment recommendations will be based on the desired outcome of the patient as well as the judgment and experience of Drs. Matthew and Coatlicue Carter. Given that our patient’s goals typically revolve around spending as little time in a dental chair as possible in the future and a lifetime free of disease and repair we provide a much broader range of services that are not accounted for in a repair-orientated fee schedule (what otherwise is thought of as “usual and customary”). Please feel free to discuss your financial concerns with our office coordinator or the doctors.

Last minute emergency! I was able to get the help I needed. Gentle, kind and compassionate. Thank you, Dr. Carter!

Jeanne S

I have been a patient at Paragon dental for about 14 years now and they are by far the best dentist office I have ever been to! They always took the time to listen and get to know me on a personal level. I feel completely at ease whenever I go to the office. They listened to me about my dental goals and also my life goals. So much to the point that I got offered a position there and now I work at the front desk! I couldn’t be happier and more grateful to the Carters for everything that has done for me. It’s truly a pleasure being both a patient and employee there.

Kayla M

Had a great experience with everyone there and really felt like I got to know them in that short time. Dr. Carter was an artist when it came to making sure I felt no pain during my extractions and if I had anymore teeth to pull I would for sure come to him. Thanks for my smile back Dr. Carter!
